Making a bento box for lunch is just the tip of an adorable iceberg lettuce salad full of colorful, creative lunch-making activities. A community of people spend serious quality time putting together lunches to give them an aesthetic boost, either for themselves or for loved ones. In Japan, it is believed that a bento prepared by a loved one actually transmits her (bento are traditionally prepared by women) feelings for the recipient into the food, carrying them through the rest of the day's activities.
