This issue's Hana-Kimi bonus story (page 28) was edited by Jason Thompson, the author of Manga: The Complete Guide, and editor of the US version of the Hana-Kimi series. We asked him to write a bit about the shojo series that spawned several high-profile tie-ins and scored millions of fans worldwide.

If you could roughly divide all shojo manga into two categories (the same way that you could say that all boys' manga are either about fight scenes or panty shots), those categories might be: (1) Shojo about girls, and (2) Shojo about beautiful boys. Set at a boys' school, Hisaya Nakajo's Hana-Kimi is a star example of the latter. The full Japanese title is Hanazakari no Kimitachi he, meaning "For You in Full Blossom." Like a garden of gorgeous guys, it's everyone's fantasy of what life is like in a school for the opposite sex.
